Nusa Waluya I Floating Hospital

1st of June 2015, doctorSHARE (Yayasan Dokter Peduli) and Yayasan EKADHARMA launching a floating hospital named Nusa Waluya I floating hospital. “Nusa” is the abbreviation of archipelago (nusantara) and “Waluya” comes from Javanese language that means healthy, heal, or recovery.

The launch of Nusa Waluya I floating hospital conducted concurrently with the Expedition Nusantara Jaya in 2015, which was held at the Military Sea Traffic Command (Kolinlamil), Jalan Raya Pelabuhan Pos 9, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta. The launch of Nusa Waluya I floating hospital was attended by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Drs. H. M. Jusuf Kalla and his wife and the founder of doctorSHARE, dr. Lie Dharmawan, PhD, FICS, Spb, SpBTKV. The event was also witnessed by the Coordinating Minister for maritime, Dr. Ir. Dwisuryo Indroyono Susilo, M.Sc.

The Nusa Waluya I floating hospital is a joint program between doctorSHARE and EKADHARMA Foundation. The Nusa Waluya I follow the footsteps of the first floating hospital (dr. Lie Dharmawan floating hospital) to take preventive action to those in need, particularly those living in disadvantaged areas, border and islands without any / minimal health facilities.

Mobile Hospital Systems that have been implemented by the Indonesian government became one of the ways to reach people in isolated areas without access to health care. However, Indonesia does not have an official blueprint of the medical service/clinical/hospital floating systems. The presence of the Floating Medical Care System could be the answer to the problems of health in Indonesia territory, which consists of more than 17,000 islands. This what motivates doctorSHARE pioneered and practiced the floating medical service.

The launch of Nusa Waluya I Floating Hospital, which is the second floating hospital, is a concrete manifestation by doctorSHARE in perfecting the system of the Floating Mobile Medical Service by running a pilot program through the implementation of this system in the archipelago and adopting some villages without / lack of facilities / health workers. The doctorSHARE team establishes the premiere medical services by using Nusa Waluya I floating hospital on 21st to 27th November 2015 in Jambi Province.
