The series of medical service activities in West Muna included general treatment center, dental treatment, minor surgery, and major surgery.

DoctorSHARE’s medical services in West Muna were enthusiastically welcomed by the local community. When the airplane carrying the volunteer team landed at Sugimanuru Airport, there were already many people outside the airport fence. The Regent of West Muna, Drs. Laode Muhammad Rajiun Tumada, M.Si and government staff were waiting and welcoming the doctorSHARE team when they got off the plane. Dances were a refreshing welcome and warm greeting for the team after four hours of air travel.

West Muna Regency is a new expansion area from Muna Regency. West Muna Regency was formed based on Law Number 14 of 2014. Materials, heavy equipment, and damaged roads became the scenery during the trip to Tondasi Port in North Tiworo District.

On Monday (3/9), the team conducted general medical treatment, dental treatment, and screening at the Tiworo Utara sub-district office. The medical services were assisted by puskesmas health officers and local health department health officers. After completing medical services at the sub-district office, the team returned to RSA Dr. Lie Dharmawan to carry out minor and major surgeries.

Based on the coordinator’s report, there were 332 general medical center patients, 42 major surgery patients, 104 minor surgery patients, and 64 dental patients. The five most common diseases found by the team were Hypertension, Dyspepsia, Myalgia, ARI and Cephalgia. The team continued to provide dental treatment, check for prospective surgery patients, as well as minor and major surgeries for people who came on the following days.

One of the patients who attended was Sarno. Sarno only received information about doctorSHARE’s free treatment and surgery the day before the medical service ended. Sarno and his son Rhio, often complained of pain between the abdomen and collarbone. They often feel this pain when doing hard work or activities.

“Let’s just go sir, who knows the doctor can operate on this,” said Tri Yulia, Sarno’s wife. Thursday morning (6/9), Sarno and his family came from Abadi Jaya Village, about an hour’s journey to Tondasi Harbor. Arriving in Tondasi, doctorSHARE’s medical team screened Sarno and his son. Sarno and Rhio were diagnosed with Hernia, both scheduled for surgery on the last day of medical services in West Muna.

West Muna Regency was only formed about three years ago, the initial condition of health facilities was still concerning. At that time, there was only one doctor for West Muna Regency. “But now there are eight general practitioners and two specialists, internal medicine and gynecology specialists,” said the Head of the Health Office of West Muna Regency, Hidayat.

According to Hidayat, the addition of medical equipment facilities has been planned every year by the West Muna Regency Government. The addition of medical equipment coincides with the construction of five hospital buildings that have been completed.

Hidayat also appreciated the arrival of the doctorSHARE team to West Muna Regency. According to him, this medical service was the first time it was held in his region. “This is the most noble activity for us, because this is the first time for free surgery here. Usually there are only free health checks,” Hidayat concluded.
