Putri Dinayanti, 10 year old, is an elementary school student in Wangi – Wangi Island, Wakatobi Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. Living in an area with limited access to healthcare, she and her family buried the dream of having surgical intervention on her legs.

Putri was born with a congenital defect called polydactyl pedis dextra. This is a congenital disorder in which babies are born with an additional number of fingers or toes. The size of the extra finger is generally smaller than the other fingers.

For ten years Putri lived with this condition, and it prevented her from living a normal life like other children. It was embarrassing to wear sandals but difficult and painful to wear shoes. Sometimes she was forced to take off her shoes in between school activities, due to the pain she was experiencing. In addition, he also often receives ridicule from his friends.

With the free medical services provided by doctorSHARE through RSA Nusa Waluya II in Wakatobi, March – June 2022, Putri and her family’s dream came true. After going through a series of examinations, Putri’s leg was finally operated on at RSA Nusa Waluya II by doctorSHARE’s volunteer surgeons.

Exactly on May 10, 2022, Putri’s surgery process was carried out. The operation went smoothly for approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. After surgery Putri was treated in the inpatient room. After that Putri always undergoes routine control at RSA Nusa Waluya II according to a specified schedule until she is fully recovered and walking normally again.

“I am happy, I can wear shoes again,” said Putri after her recovery period with teary eyes.
