Post-Disaster Medical Services in Karangasem, Bali

doctorSHARE deployed a post-disaster team to Karangasem, Bali. Services to residents affected by the earthquake that occurred in mid-October were carried out on November 14-17, 2021. The post-disaster team of Yayasan Dokter Peduli (doctorSHARE) was brought in to assist and support the post-disaster recovery phase that has been established by the local government since some time ago, especially in the field of Health.

Free medical services in Karangasem, Bali were carried out in two villages namely Pempatan Village, Rendang District and Ban Village, Kubu District Karangasem, Bali. These two areas were the most affected by the earthquake.

By involving 6 medical and non-medical volunteers and for four days of service, 234 patients received free treatment and medicines, with the most common diseases being Arthralgia and ARI.

In addition to providing free medication, the doctorSHARE volunteer team handed over Pre-Prosperity aid packages to 200 households, in the form of hand sanitizers, vitamins, and snacks and drinking water.

In order to support the ongoing post-disaster recovery process in Karangasem Regency, the team also provided a package of medicines to the local health center which will later be used to reach those in need.

Previously, on Saturday, October 16, 2021, a tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 shook the Karangasem area, Bali at 04.18 WITA. Based on the analysis of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the epicenter of the earthquake was on land at a distance of 8 km northwest of Karangasem, Bali with a hypocenter depth of 10 km. The earthquake that occurred was a type of shallow earthquake due to active fault activity in the Rendang area, Karangasem.
